Car history:
2) Convertible 4-speed, 427/435 HP L-71 Tri-Power collector car. TRUE ORIGINAL numbers matching Engine, Transmission, and Rear. Additionally documented with original dealer invoice/build record, first owner's actual State title and registration matching the invoice, and the owners manual. Never-hit frame and all original fiberglass. Build date of March 27th, 1968. I am the 3rd owner. Had 120,000 miles at time of restoration.
VERY RARE code 978 International Blue paint, a 1968 only color in which about 2400 cars had. In addition, has two rare options being the AM/FM stereo, and speed warning indicator speedometer, where about 3300 cars had ordered of each. Has the Transistor Ignition as well (which was standard on 435HP optioned cars). Factory power steering and power brakes. As configured, this car is one of only a handful (approximately 200) that were made.
The car was fully restored beautifully to show/1 condition inside and out in 2011, and is correct throughout, with all proper castings and dates on the original restored parts, particularly the original Holley dated 2 x 3 carbs. Frame was black epoxy coated, with undercoating replacement, as it had. Paint is outstanding, as is the engine compartment and interior detailing (Al Knock carpet and 1968 correct genuine leather basket-weave seats as a nice upgrade despite originally built with standard vinyl). Only the undercarriage shows the evidence that the car has been driven, but otherwise, still presents wonderfully. Another great aspect is that it always runs cool even on the hottest of days and longest of drives, and all mechanical features work like new. Drives like a new car. There is no smog set up, has modern tires, and a look-a-like digital stereo as the only incorrect features, but an original radio is boxed and included.
I can no longer afford to stare at a high-dollar car sitting in my garage that I don't get to drive much. Car was appraised for $90k and insured as such. Priced below market/condition value, but I am NOT in a rush to sell. Will be scheduled for Mecum Auction at Harrisburg in August, 2017. BiN $71,000 (Ended) on March 1, 2017. BiN $59,500 (Ended) on April 12, 2017. No bid at starting $48,000 on May 13, 2017.
1) All matching numbers car (including engine). Ultra rare 427 engine with the 435 hp tri-power option. Exterior color is a gorgeous original International Blue, Interior is black interior. 4-speed manual transmission. Power steering and power brakes. These cars are just starting to increase in value. This is 1 of 221 corvettes made with these options. Just finished a complete, no expense spared, full nut and bolt restoration.
Here are some specs and info:
Corvette '68... all different all over. That's the quote from the sales brochure for the redesigned 1968 Corvette. The body was completely redesigned with the coupe losing it's fastback window but gaining a removable back window and removable t-tops for that almost convertible feel. The chassis itself did not change much from the 1967 model. The new hidden wipers and hidden headlights are vacuum operated instead of electrical. Door openers now use a push button to open and a push in handle to pull the door, this was only used on the 1968 model. The new auxiliary top for the convertible has a glass rear window. The new standard automatic was the 3-speed Turbo Hydra-Matic instead of the 2-speed PowerGlide used previously. A new fiber-optic monitoring system was added to the dash and Astro-Ventilation was added to improve the airflow in the cabin. The '68 Vette did not have the Sting Ray badging on it anywhere, it would return in '69 as Stingray. 1968 was also the year that Zora Arkus-Duntov was named Chief Engineer of the Corvette. $45,400 and running. July 9, 2014. Ended at $49,900 (RnM) on March 23, 2016. Ended at $42,622 on May 22, 2016.
